Preparatory Work

Yesterday’s EduDelta meeting set several precedents. One precedent, for example, was to have the meeting at the residence of the Core Team Members (CTM). In this case, it was Clarence who played the role of an amiable host. The arrangement was a refreshing and a much needed change from our usual practice of having meetings at the Jelutung Community Club in Sembawang or the various fast-food restaurants in Singapore. We also broke away from our organisation structure and regrouped ourselves into smaller work teams that focus on either internal or external affairs. The strategic reorganisation will undoubtedly increase our efficiency as it reduces any unnecessary consultation with irrelevant departments and gives related departments greater freedom to focus on their core responsibilities.

On the recruitment front, we have two new members, Kanna and Suba, joining the Core Team and they will be contributing their expertise in liaison and education department respectively. Clarence, our Human Resource CTM, also gave EduDelta a shot in the arm by announcing that we are making great progress in our recruitment campaign to secure the services of passionate teacher volunteers. The old problem of having a lack of qualified and committed teacher volunteers had pegged the progress of our project considerably and thus, I am glad that we are finally able to steer our project back on track. With such positive developments, I am sure we will be able to implement the project very soon!

Raffles Presentation

Headed down to Raffles for phase 2 of the recruitment drive. It was daunting to step into the campus, alone if I may add, and wonder: where in the world is LT3. There were students kind enough to direct me there after which I proceeded to stick out like a sore thumb (you’ll see why in the photo below). A couple of miscommunications occurred which pretty much left me in a  flurry, but everything ended nicely, albeit with numerous panicky calls. (a BIG thank you to those who endured my calls. ARIGATOGOZAIMASU!!)

The presentation to Raffles Community Advocate went rather smoothly, though there were embarrassing moments when I just couldn’t pronounce the word “methodology”. -_-”

(picture to come)

My journey to the east

In the fictional story of 西遊記, Buddhist monk Xuánzàng, together with his disciples, travelled to the West in search of precious Buddhist sutras. Inspired by the story and their success, I embarked on a personalised adventure that took me to the eastern parts of Singapore. Only this time, I was heading in the opposite direction, there was no guarantee of Buddhahood and fortunately there were no monsters along the way.

My recruitment adventure ended in Victoria Junior College (VJC) and Dunman High School (DHS). Both are distinguished schools with a long history of excellence. Apart from that, VJC struck me as a very homely place that contains a close-knit family. I had the opportunity to meet Syamil, the president of VJC Interact Club, who generously became my tour leader. Similarly, DHS is just as impressive. The green hues of the building and the abundant greenery was a scenic sight! Lyon, the president of DHS Community Service Club, was an excellent host too.

Besides Syamil and Lyon, I also have to thank numerous students for showing me around the school as well as the volunteers who patiently sat through my recruitment presentation. I hope our project impressed some of you and convinced you to join us. After all, that is the “sutra” that I was looking to find in the journey. :D

Got Tee

After deciding that EduDelta shall have a tee for Core Team members and our teacher volunteers, we got Desmond from Orangish Designs to give us some ideas and he came up with a series of brilliant designs which we all decided will be printed but then we can’t roll them out all at a time so for the first tee, we’re going for the light bulb (and heart) design:

First of the Series

First of the Series

The design is simple and we’re probably going to get our names printed on the sleeves for Core Team members. We’re hoping to get it printed on dry-fit tees (which kinda shows the active side of EduDelta project). A note for volunteers, you can purchase the tee from us if you like when you join us!

1st phase of recruitment – visit to RJ!

Girl with the Killers Tee

Girl with the 'Killers' Tee

Kwang Guan (our liason officer) and Cara crashed the RJ Interact Club’s GM with their J1s today (25th Feb, Wed) to spread the word and share the love of Edudelta(: It was kg’s first time there, and to mark this momentous occasion we went to get their pe shirts o.o, looked for the Subway that someone said was there but it turned out to be a scam (there was only 7eleven -.-) , tried their canteen food, and searched for LT3, among other random things.

The presentation itself went pretty smoothly and spontaneously, despite our nerves and occasional lapse of chemistry, and our audience raised several positive questions which made me thankful that our presentation managed to raise sufficient interest level. Response was quite good as well… 21 potential volunteers! Kudos to KG who did a great job fielding the questions and uh charming our audience!:D

Of course, much thanks to the welcoming folks of the RJ Interactors , especially the comm members and teacher-in-charge, for all the support and help rendered!:D and a great big HELLO to anyone in our audience today visiting this site(:

psst. You can take a look at the presentation here.

Volunteer Recruitment!

The recruitment drive for volunteers is starting to gain momentum as we contacted school Community Involvement Clubs/Societies and liaise with student leaders from CCAs. Here’s our Recruitment Powerpoint Slides (much like a primitive corporate video for a start) for those interested to find out more about EduDelta in a concise and clear manner. Those who are already all ready to get busy with some volunteer work will be thrilled to see that we have rolled out our Teacher Volunteer Forms.

Interested parties can download our Teacher Volunteer Application Forms and submit it by either filling up the MS Word version with a computer or write on a printed PDF version of the form then scan and sent; then forwarding them to our HR Officer, Clarence:

We’ve updated our ‘Join Us!‘ page so that you can access our forms through the link on our main page.
Hand-filled [PDF Version]
Typed-Written [MS Document]

Completed forms can be sent to:

A tour of RJC!

EduDelta is visiting Raffles Junior College Interact Club on 25 Feb 09 to give a recruitment presentation. According to Michelle, the Comm Svc Director of RJC Interact Club, there will be a turnout of 80 j1 volunteers. WOW! This will be a valuable opportunity for EduDelta to reach out to its target audience and convince potential volunteers to make us a part of their lives. Let’s hope this goes well! (:

Progress, Progress.

Another meeting on the 21st of Feb, with quite a number of core team members missing ): HOWEVER! We managed to get quite alot of things sorted out. Firstly we filled up some information and did some goalsetting within the core team itself. Will help us measure our progress :D And also we did discuss and suggest solution to certain issues like the administrative costs and the application process. AND AND kwang guan has managed to secure some contacts with the various schools! With a pending introductory talk at RJC on the 25th of Feb as well as some exposure in RJC “Youth Got Heart” CIP Fair in Junction 8 on the 28th of Feb its safe to say we are making progress! :D and more to come yay. Hope for good news by the end of this week!
